Gal Uchovsky is a film producer, script writer, journalist, TV personality and LGBT activist. In 2002 he co-founded the Israeli gay youth organization that went on to become the biggest LGBT network in his country. He is still the president of the organization.
Among other things he created the documentary series The Pride Revolution, wrote and produced the Eytan Fox movies Walk on Water and The Bubble. In 2006 he was a judge on "Israeli Idol" which made him a household name in Israel.
Mr. Uchovsky is known for the films he produces for his partner director Eytan Fox, including Yossi & Jagger. Their new film Sublet staring John Benjamin Hickey will premiere in 2020.
As a culture journalist Mr. Uchovsky was one of the leading voices in the new-media revolution that happened in Israel in the 80's. Trying to change the militaristic atmosphere in Israel into a more civilian oriented, less claustrophobic. As a writer and later as the editor in chief of "Ha'ir" (The City, The Tel Aviv Magazine) he was tagged as the spokesmen for the new Tel Aviv.
For five years he has served as a judge on the mega popular Israeli version of "American Idol" where he was labeled "The Israeli Simon Cowel".
Mr. Uchovsky came out at an early stage of his life and has been a vocal advocate of gay rights in Israeli media, as a writer and activist he became a role model for many young people. The monthly gay magazine Pink Time named "The most influential gay person in Israel".
