Matthew Kovalsky is a Maryland native and now calls NYC home.
He has proudly served the NYC LGBTQA+ community for 8 years volunteering for NYC Pride.
Currently, Matthew is a Board Member and Rally Director.
Matthew’s vision behind this year’s Rally is to represent diversity, inclusion and, accessibility. Working on many aspects of NYC Pride, Matthew believes the Rally is one of the largest activist platforms to create change in the world.
In addition to NYC Pride, Matthew is a member of Congregation Beit Simchat Torah, a diverse and welcoming community. He was one of the US event planner for Butt Mitzvah an LGBTQA+ party for Jews in the queer space.
Matthew credits his upbringing in a secure, nurturing, Jewish community that led him to his current volunteer work. He attended the Charles E. Smith Jewish day school; was a leader that brought an LGBTQA+ safe space to BBYO helping others come out and learn with all their peers; and was actively involved with the JCC’s Open House.
During college, Matthew visited Israel on an LGBTQA+ birthright trip, where he met lifelong friends; and experienced Israel in a completely new way.
Matthew says, “Being queer has always intersected with my Judaism. Thanks to the acceptance and love from both my parents, family, friends and welcoming Jewish organizations”.
